eaBEAM: The Concept of the Methodology

Electricity companies world-wide are driving to reduce costs whilst continuing to improve their operating performance. The business and regulatory drivers are different in each country. However what is common is that a robust approach is needed for decision making since the results will live with them for many years. In fact without such an approach it is almost impossible to reach what is being called the efficient frontier.

It has become apparent that a balance of business, engineering skills and experience is needed to prioritise investments and make the optimum use of capital and operating budgets. Such investments will be disclosed through asset management plans targeted at improved network and customer service which will be open to public scrutiny.
Business Evaluation and Analysis Methodology

The approach used in the overall methodology is:

  • Identify the strategic and tactical roles within the business.
  • Supply quantitative analysis tools for the most important aspects of the business
  • Create interfaces to company data
  • Produce a library of quantitative scenarios
  • Provide an environment for examining CAPEX/OPEX trade offs

The diagram below shows an implementation of this methodology for the electricity distribution business.
