Purpose, Scope and Objectives
Purpose
 The purpose of this forum is to provide an arena for the free exchange of information, informal discussion and sharing of knowledge and experience.
Scope
The scope of this forum is any topic or issue relating to the design, installation, operation and general management of power network protection systems. The following are considered within scope:
- Protection system hardware
- Protection system software
- Protection system communications
- Protection system ancillary power supplies
- Power network earthing systems
- Protection related risk management for power network failure and unauthorised interference
- Power network stability
- Power network management and protection system tools, techniques and technologies
Objectives
- To consider common problems and seek common solutions (eg equipment performance, failures etc)
- To be informed of new technologies and innovation (eg what is new from the manufacturers, technical bodies etc)
- To consider the impact of technical changes in the design and operation of power networks (eg embedded generation) from a protection perspective
- To consider cost effective management solutions for power network protection systems (eg safety, reliability, maintenance, testing, commissioning etc)
- To be a knowledgeable forum able to inform and influence national and international technical bodies and associations
Attendance
- Membership shall be restricted to ESI Network Operators and EA Technology Ltd
(This may be extended in future by majority agreement of current members)
- A standing invitation to shall be extended to the Energy Networks Association
- Manufacturers, Service Providers and Ad Hoc visitors shall attend by invitation only
