Demand Side Management systems switch OFF non-essential equipment for short periods during peaks in electricity demand, to reduce the stress on the electricity distribution network. These short breaks in supply have little effect on the functioning of the equipment, but can make a significant difference to the system load, as well as reducing the carbon footprint.
Similarly, DSM systems can switch ON equipment when excess electricity generation is available to effectively store energy.
