CableSniffer™
The CableSniffer™ is a revolution in underground cable fault location that works via an 8mm bore hole rather than a full scale excavation. The cableSniffer works by sensing the gases given off when cable insulation starts to break down. Faults can normally be located in under an hour to an accuracy of up to 1 metre, eliminating the need for multiple exploratory excavations.
- Finds faults fast to restore supply quicker
- Avoids the need for costly exploratory excavations
- Accurate to within 1 metre allowing single dig repairs
- Pays for itself in days in cost and time savings
- Improves customer service
The CableSniffer™ has made such a significant difference to underground LV cable repairs, that it is now used by every single electricity supplier in the UK.
Unlike the old trial-and-error principle of exploratory excavations, the CableSniffer™ only needs bore holes of 8mm to accommodate the sensor probes. And with a sensitivity as low as 60ppm for the gasses given off by failing joints and insulation, the CableSniffer can pinpoint the fault to within one metre, virtually guaranteeing the fault will be found with a single dig.
Naturally, less excavations means less time, less disruption and lower costs, resulting in faster repairs and more responsive customer service. In normal operation, the CableSniffer saves enough in wasted digs to pay for itself within just a few days, and continues to save money week after week thereafter.
The CableSniffer™ requires minimal training and runs on a long-life, rechargeable battery.
