PURL™
The Pole Ultrasonic Rot Locator™ is the world’s most effective instrument for accurately establishing the condition of pine poles, producing accurate condition assessments without the guesswork of hammer tests or the intrusion of drill through tests.- Measures rot and residual strength
- Tried and tested in the field
- Predictive software is remarkably accurate
- Minimum intrusion of just 20mm
- Makes maintenance planning more cost-effective
Half a million pine poles are replaced in Britain every year, often based on traditional ‘hammer tapping’ condition assessments to guess the residual strength of the poles.
The PURL™ takes away this guesswork, with an accurate, non-intrusive ultrasonic scan that accurately predicts rot and measures residual strength. This allows asset managers to avoid replacing poles that still have useful life, while identifying others with unexpected rot levels.
The PURL™ is simple to use and penetrates just 20mm into the pole, remaining within the preservative layer and avoiding the introduction of dangerous microbes. The resulting scan is then analysed by software to produce a cross section map of the pole’s internal condition.
The PURL™ kit includes a transmitter and receiver to relay data to the analysing computer, plus all the accessories required for field use. The PURL™ is compatible with most field data gathering equipment.
