As well as providing helicopter inspections to meet ESQC regulations, EA Technology also offers a more detailed inspection service to help with the asset management of electricity towers, including a prediction of the remaining useful life of the tower and recommendations for refurbishment.

  • Quicker and more cost-effective than conventional inspections
  • Standardised for objective condition assessment
  • Produces a permanent photographic record
  • Creates Health Indices for the entire tower network
  • Enhances strategic planning and investment decision making

An airborne Electricity Tower Condition Assessment from EA Technology is an efficient and cost-effective way to meet a range of regulatory obligations and strategic asset management objectives, replacing multiple foot and climbing inspections with just one visit.

Each assessment captures the maximum information from a single visit, including thermal imaging if required, without the need for network isolation or HV switching. A large number of highly detailed GPS-tagged digital images are collected at each tower, which are then analysed by our expert team to produce a detailed condition assessment of the tower structure and fittings.

From this we can determine a Health Index for each tower, which can be used to prioritise maintenance and remedial work. This data can also be incorporated into our unique asset management process - Condition Based Risk Management (CBRM) - to help with strategic network decision making and investment planning.

The inspection results are presented in user friendly formats that can be tailored to suit the specific demands of your utility, with all results electronically cross-referenced for a range of uses and legal records. It is even possible to ‘fly’ the network yourself from your desk to see the results in context.
