Strategic Technology Programme
EA Technology Strategic Technology Programme (STP)
The Strategic Technology Programme (STP), managed by EA Technology, provides research, development and technology provision to owners and operators of electricity networks. The key aim of the STP is to cost effectively improve the operational efficiency and business performance of its members within the bounds of the current regulatory constraints. The STP offers:- Modular options that can be tailored to business needs
- Fast Delivery in a rapidly changing business environment
- Flexible since with frequent reviews of direction and project mix
- Efficient communication
- Typically an eight-fold return on participants investment
The Strategic Technology Programme (STP) is directly controlled by the participating Electricity Companies, with optional modules within the programme to address priority business areas. Participating companies can choose just the optional modules that fit their strategic priorities.
The STP model is unique in structure, management and content. In particular, potential projects are developed with steering group members to address the business needs of their companies, then each project is competitively judged by the steering group on merit against other potential projects developed for a module. Modules reflect the interests of the participating companies and can be created or closed annually.
The STP has demonstrated considerable success in delivering targeted and cost effective technology solutions to participating utilities. The Innovation Funding Incentive, which is to be included in the UK Distribution Price Control Regulations, drew heavily on examples from STP when demonstrating the value to be gained from innovation.
