SF6 Training
This one-day or two day course provides delegates with a knowledge of the chemistry, degradation and diagnostic
testing of SF6 gas in switchgear and moves on to include its handling, disposal, recovery and recycling. The safe
handling, environmental and legal issues surrounding SF6 are also discussed along with a presentation on service
carts and measuring instruments. Practical demonstrations of gas sampling, on-site tests, topping up and degassing procedures have also been included. Finally, failures of SF6 switchgear are also discussed. Day two is for assessment purposes, please call for details. |

Partial Discharge Training
This one or two day course trains delegates in the use of hand-held partial discharge instruments. Discharge
theory is covered and various PD instruments are demonstrated along with ultrasonic PD detection. In the oneday course the PD monitor is briefly discussed. However, in the two-day course the PD monitor is covered in
some detail and the second day will be spent showing how it is installed, records PD data and analyses and
interprets it. |

The introduction to this course takes delegates quickly through basic theory for rotating machines and then moves
on to introduce the power electronics used in AC variable speed drives. The application of variable speed drives

Electrical Safety – Arc Flash and the UK Approach to Managing Risk
The debate in recent technical articles and conferences regarding the use of arc-flash protection appear to have
been led by the manufacturers of arc-flash protection material and garments. We have been exposed to arguments in favour of the use of arc-flash personal protection equipment and counter-arguments showing that UK electrical equipment and work practices are different than those in the USA. This conference sets out to inform a wider debate. |
